SEAD stands for Stewards of Environmentally-Aware Development. We are an environmentally-focused company specializing in the utilization of bamboo as a sustainable solution for the built environment, land restoration and community empowerment.
the problem
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 18 million acres of forest are lost each year. At this rate, in less than a 100 years, there will be no rainforests. World Resources Institute estimates that forest loss contributes to 12-17% of annual global GHG emissions. However, timber and biomass are crucial resources. A more resilient alternative is urgently needed. One that is rapidly renewable and empowering towards a restoration economy.
the solution
Bamboo is one of the most rapidly renewable woody plants in the world. It can be harvested without replanting in a way that can even increase the overall yield of the plant, supercharging its rate of carbon sequestration. It is also an incredibly resilient plant suited for restoration of degraded lands.
